He gawn!

“If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.” – Yogi Berra

There’s nothing I like more than a spot of photography. Except perhaps watching some baseball, oh and playing fantasy baseball of course. I am in a CBS Roto league that has been running for over ten years, yup how about that for longevity. Not such a big deal for an American perhaps but for a Limey that’s a rarity. Baseball used to be shown on Channel Five here in the UK presented twice weekly by Jonny Gould and co-hosts Todd Macklin, Dave Lengel and Josh Chetwynd. The fantasy game was promoted heavily with Channel Five and BSUK (Baseball Softball UK) running their own fantasy game and I was lucky enough to be a part of the team that built the fantasy game, took decisions on the changes each season, moderated the BSUK baseball forum and arranged World Series parties to get fans together. It was a great time to be a baseball fan in the UK with thousands playing the Five fantasy game and many more watching but sadly, a number of years ago, Channel Five decided baseball wasn’t reaching a wide enough audience and axed the show and baseball fans in the UK ceased to have a place to meet and watch games. I am still able to watch the sporadic showings on ESPN via BT Vision or indeed pay for mlb.tv but the connection that the fans had with the Five show is simply not there. Competitions, email chats and very British humour is what made Five’s coverage of baseball so great and that is sadly missing from the coverage on ESPN and other US Sports channels. But at least I still have the fantasy game, a great group of friends from here and across the pond and that seething rage and sense of utter desolation that only the fantasy game can give you. So let’s play ball.
