The Secret World Inside of Us

“Everybody has a secret world inside of them. I mean everybody. All of the people in the whole world, I mean everybody — no matter how dull and boring they are on the outside. Inside them they’ve all got unimaginable, magnificent, wonderful, stupid, amazing worlds… Not just one world. Hundreds of them. Thousands, maybe.”
― Neil Gaiman

Ordinary

.

Take an ordinary photo of yourself,

a ‘selfie’,

if you will,

pout if you want to,

like I did.

I know it’s silly,

and all sorts of criticism is thrown at this kind of thing,

but it’s fun.

Now,

add some imagination…

.

Summer Fun

.

Using my imagination,

having fun with it,

means a lot to me,

and therefore answers,

the question posed by the photography prompt

Something That Means A Lot To You

Having fun with my imagination,

maintains my balance,

keeps me grounded,

stops me from jumping off sharp edges,

strange as that may sound.

.

Autumn Shadows

.

These images were done,

a while ago,

for personal use,

when I first entered the fray of social media.

I was nervous,

uncertain of how to approach such a beast,

of the online world.

So,

I opted for

fun,

letting my imagination run wild,

experimenting,

with variations of myself.

.

Winter Blues

.

Eventually I settled for something simpler,

more me,

as I am,

but hiding behind masks,

initially,

helped to ease my way,

to just being myself.

“Among other things, you’ll find that you’re not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior. You’re by no means alone on that score, you’ll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You’ll learn from them—if you want to. Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It’s a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn’t education. It’s history. It’s poetry.”
