He says: C is for Complication

Love is a burning thing And it makes a fiery ring. Bound by wild desire I fell into a ring of fire. – Johnny Cash

I’m not sure what I expected when I poured lighter fluid in to the back of this watch and set fire to it. But that’s the joy of photography for me. Experimentation. The unknown.

How else are you going to find out what happens when you set fire to a watch except by setting fire to one and capturing the moment.

So why is this C for complication?

Is it perhaps because telling the time with a flaming watch is, well, complicated? No.

Is it because the reasons for setting fire to a watch are complicated? No. Experimentation is simple. Like sucking a sweet to see what it tastes like.

This is C for Complication because that’s what the movement in a watch is called when it displays anything beyond hours and minutes. It’s as uncomplicated as that.

“All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
