The Bottle O’ Wine

“I have drunken deep of joy,
And I will taste no other wine tonight.”
― Percy Bysshe Shelley

Who would I be

without you?

a question we sometimes ask

but rarely want answered

as long as things are

between us.

It can be an expression of a loss

we never want to experience

an appreciation of a want

to keep

drinking deep

of a love

that grows

the richness that a relationship brings.

It brings a reddish hue

a glow

to our cheeks

“One should always be drunk. That’s all that matters…But with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you chose. But get drunk.”
― Charles Baudelaire

Years ago

before I met Steve

I spent time

(yearning for the day that we would meet)

at a vineyard

living and breathing

(my own longing for him)

the passion that goes into

You don’t just squeeze grapes

then pour

the juice

a bottle

You plant the seed

which grows into vine

then you nurture that vine

year after year

worrying about the sun

the elements it has

or does not have

like a parent with a child

until it yields

that are full of

your patience

then you pick those

(not the others which are still immature)

and their wise waters

are filtered through

a system which includes

taking long lunches

where people commune with each other

over food

for thought

and soul

you wait

some more

and that’s what you bottle

“There is truth in wine and children.”
― Plato

But the bottle

which now has

a soul within it

still needs a label

allows others to meet it

That’s one of the things which Steve and I do

for a living

as they say…

we design labels

(not the one featured in the photo…

we also do product photography)

wine bottles

our part in that is just the tip

the work

and vision

of many

a soul

“Drink wine. This is life eternal. This is all that youth will give you. It is the season for wine, roses and drunken friends. Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.”
― Omar Khayyám

What would I do without you…?

We make the wine

and that is why

this wine bottle is

the next in our Objectivity challenge

Without you

there is

not really

we’re a band
