“In order to rise
From its own ashes
A phoenix
First
Must
Burn.”
― Octavia E. Butler

Relationships,
are
even at the best of times.
.
It’s all about finding a balance,
between self and other,
without breaking one,
or another,
which serves both in equal measure.
.
There is an order
to
doing this,
but,
to find that order,
you usually need to make mistakes,
create a bit of disorder.
.
If memory serves me correctly,
and I haven’t jumbled its order,
one of the first things,
which Steve found out about me,
shortly after we met and merged,
almost two decades ago,
is that I have a
beyond expert level skill
for breaking things.
.
Except his heart,
although it did feel a twinge,
when I broke one of his
espresso cups.
.
If you have something which needs breaking,
please place your order,
and I will try my hardest to
not break it…
that is what usually does the trick.
.
reminds me of one of my favorite all time books, Broken for You. Can’t remember the author but I have many new ways to look at breaking things after reading it!
Sorry about the lovely cup.
I have a huge collection of cobalt glass. Uh, maybe I won’t invite you for a visit just yet…..;)

Haha!
When I was a child one of the things which terrified me was walking through the glassware department in a shop.
In certain languages when you discuss something getting broken you actually say that it broke itself 🙂

Well that’s a brilliant way to shift responsibility. Think I’ll try that. What languages, quick? 🙂

Spanish. Can also be done with Italian. Pretty cool, rather philosophical, and perhaps also metaphysical – this glass was seeking to reincarnate itself!

Beautifully written! I love the structure and rhythm of this poem. Some things are like that — the harder you try to not do something, the harder it becomes. Like trying not to think about something uncomfortable and you think about it anyway.

Thank you very much!
Yes, it’s like that joke they sometimes use in comedy sketches about not mentioning something, and because you’re not supposed to mention it, it’s all you want to talk about.
