What you fear losing

take a pew

.

“Grief does not change you… It reveals you.”
― John Green

.

Recently I read that

if you want to know what someone fears losing

look at what they photograph

.

Is that true?

.

Or was someone projecting

and transferring

their own issues

onto others

and

making it sound as though

their issue was

actually someone else’s problem

.

It’s hard to tell

sometimes

what is ours

what is another’s

what is not ours

what is not another’s

.

It’s an interesting idea

whatever the truth of it is

that what we photograph

is a selfie of

what we don’t want to lose

.

The photograph with this post is

of an item that

both Steve and I

wanted to have

separately

together

we saw it while looking for something else

something far more practical than this

we did not find that practical thing we were looking for

but we did find this

we didn’t go for it right away

because it was an indulgence

which we both wanted but

neither of us told the other about it until much later

we returned to get it

we didn’t want to lose the opportunity to have it

but if it couldn’t be ours

so be it

.

“Don’t grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.”
― Rumi

It is ours now

so be it
