The Uprooted Flow

floating-roots

.

“I am rooted, but I flow.”
― Virginia Woolf

.

While trying to be clever

promising myself rainbows

as rewards

for genius

I only succeeded in being stupid

the harder I tried

the faster I fell

into waters

swirling

While accepting my dumbness

it made me less so

for in that moment

of realisation

that all my ideas

were

those of a fool

I relaxed

stopped thinking

the flood subsided

and in that blank space

left behind

I found

what I was looking for

which was right in front

of my eyes

all along

What was I seeking?

Roots…

and a place to put them

so I can grow

but I grow with the flow

rootless

.

“Self-respect is the root of discipline: The sense of dignity grows
with the ability to say no to oneself.”
― Abraham Joshua Heschel

.
