A Spoonful of Sugar

the sworn enemy of the health conscious

a danger to your diet

an addictive substance

a villain

lurking around every corner

stalking you

waiting to pounce

to deceive

to lure

with its sweetness

the smell of it

the aroma

as it heats up

sticking to your fingers

permeating the air

is intoxicating

edible diamonds

captivating crystals

frozen droplets of yum

just a spoonful of it

won’t hurt

might heal

a rush of energy

a moment of graceful indulgence

to delight

in the privacy

(shh don’t tell anyone)

of a flight of fancy

Happy Anniversary

our private time together

dear sugar

is oh so delectably delicious

the more they tell me not to

the more I want to

“You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”
― Roald Dahl
