Most Precious Keepsakes

On the tenth

Happy Anniversary

of your marriage

you are traditionally

supposed to give

your loved

something made of

a tin of something

I found this tin

in the shed

in a box

filled with

tea and tobacco containers

left behind by a previous owner

of this piece of earth

according to the label

which fell off

as I manhandled it

as it resisted my attempt to open it

it apparently once contained

it was empty when I finally opened it

or was it

“The heart, like the mind, has a memory.
And in it are kept the most precious keepsakes.”
― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
