The Abandoned Hive

.

There’s buzzing in the walls

a deep steady thrumming hum

signalling that time of year

when bees get busy

there’s a bumblebee nest

in the loft

and the sound of activity is rippling

down into the bedroom

there’s a hole which I didn’t fill

in the skin of the house

and the bees are now making use of it

in and out

in and out

and through the maze of their hive

until their work is done

the photo is of an old bee hive

found while breaking up

the soft and rotted trunk of an old

long dead tree

.

“There is no route out of the maze. The maze shifts as you move through it, because it is alive. ”
― Philip K. Dick
