The Kiss of Life

Snow Fox.

Dance a measure,
Find your name
And buried treasure…

Face your life
Its pain,
Its pleasure,
Leave no path untaken.”
― Neil Gaiman

.

Have you ever had one of those days,

when you took the wrong path,

but just kept going,

and it turned out to be right in the end?

.

On the day that the fox crossed my path,

minutes before it did,

I had made what I thought was a right decision,

to use a Macro lens,

but,

then I cursed myself for not having gone with the Zoom lens instead.

If only I’d had the Zoom,

then I might have captured the fox,

up close.

.

“Goodbye,” said the fox. “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

.

If only I’d gone where I was supposed to be going,

many years ago,

I would have never met Stephen.

And if he had gone where he was supposed to be going,

he would have never met me.

We met because we both ended up in a place,

neither of us had intended to go.

Our paths diverged at a crossroads of wrong ways.

.

Had we not met,

there would not have been,

meetings with a fox on a Winter’s day,

arguments for me to have with myself about lens choices,

pictures at all.

.

The latest photography prompt

Someone That You Love

could only be Stephen.

I thought about going down a path of abstract,

but,

I decided to take another way.

.

And did you get what
you wanted from this life, even so?
I did.
And what did you want?
To call myself beloved, to feel myself
beloved on the earth.”
― Raymond Carver

  1. I love the above quote from Antoine de-Saint Exupery. Many years ago, I hung a similar sentiment attributed to Mark Twain, on my work bulletin board.

“The common eye sees only the outside of things, and judges by that, but the seeing eye pierces through and reads the heart and the soul, finding there capacities which the outside didn’t indicate or promise, and which the other kind of eye couldn’t detect.”
